What’s video conferencing?
The range of options for video conferencing services are as diverse as the use cases. A video conference call can take place from your IP desk phone, through a cloud-based app, on a mobile device or in a video meeting space equipped with a room system. With the right video conferencing provider, you can cover every base through a unified communications and collaboration solution – so no matter where your employees work, they’ll be able to stay connected.

The advantages of video conferencing for businesses
Video conferencing can bring your business together despite the distance.
-
Increase your close rate
For many sales professionals, video calling is the next best thing to meeting in person. The act of jumping on webcam (even if your prospect doesn’t return the gesture) has been shown to increase close rates. Use video to build trust and rapport – and ultimately close more deals.
-
Bring teams closer
Team building can be challenging when everyone isn’t in the same location. Phone calls just can’t replace a true face-to-face connection. Thankfully, video collaboration goes a long way toward creating a happy and productive virtual team by allowing team members to see eye to eye and share a smile.
-
Get the whole message
Digital communication is full of miscommunication. It’s easy to miss someone’s intention in a text or email, and audio-only calls hide non-verbal expressions. With a video conferencing solution, you can register and understand all the body language cues that are so important to clear conversation.
-
Travel less, save more
Having an in-person meeting means people who aren’t local need to travel to get there. That means worrying about travel costs, not to mention the time it takes. Video conferencing solves the problem by allowing people to meet from anywhere as if they were in the same room.

- Make sure your webcam is in a stable position on your computer or monitor – especially if you have a desk you raise and lower often.
- Choose a location with good lighting. If you're sitting in front of a window, try moving to another spot so attendees aren’t looking at your silhouette the entire time.
- Position your webcam (and yourself!) so that your face fills up a good portion of the webcam viewer. The closer you are, the easier it is to read your expressions.
- For even better video communications in GoToMeeting, try opening Preferences> Webcam > Advanced. Depending on your webcam, you may have additional features to enable, such as "face recognition" or "right light," that can improve your video quality.
