Teaching Sustainability in the Year of Remote Education

It’s hard to believe that the new school year is already underway, but for many kids (and their families), the classroom looks very different this year. No doubt the new format will be a challenge, but it also provides some unique opportunities that wouldn’t normally be available to students and teachers. And as a top provider of videoconferencing and remote collaboration technologies, it’s part of our mission at LogMeIn to help support those opportunities and our local community.

That’s why we’re proud to announce a new program with our partner Sweet Farm to help teach students about the environment and sustainability. The Sweet Farm Virtual Field Trip Contest will allow elementary and middle school teachers (grades 1-8) anywhere in the country the chance to win a virtual tour of the farm for their students, meet the farm animals and learn about sustainable living practices. If they’re lucky, students might even see Kevin the Pig, my personal favorite member of the Sweet Farm family.

Following their virtual field trip, each of the three winning classes selected will also receive an online gardening and composting class (plus some awesome GoTo and Sweet Farm-branded gardening essentials). The lesson will teach students how to grow their own sustainable gardens, and provide composting tips they can implement at home with their families to recycle kitchen and food waste, enrich the soil while gardening and help the environment!

If you missed our earlier announcement around our partnership with Sweet Farm, the farm is the first non-profit sanctuary in the world that addresses the impact of farming across animals, plants and the planet. Their work providing education about agriculture, farm-animal rescue and sustainable farming technology makes them the ideal partner for LogMeIn to help provide students with a unique education opportunity during this disparate period of back to school.
