Aditya Bhatia joined GoTo as an engineer. Today he's a Director of Software Engineering driving AI innovation from Bengaluru. We asked him to share what's shaped that journey — and what it says about building a career at GoTo.

There's a version of Aditya Bhatia's career story that sounds almost too clean. Engineer joins company. Engineer grows. Engineer becomes Director.

But read what Aditya has to say about his 11.5 years at GoTo, and what comes through isn't a clean arc — it's something more honest: a person who stayed not because he had to, but because the environment kept giving him reasons not to leave.

Today he's a Director of Engineering leading teams across engineering, marketing, and sales, and playing a central role in GoTo's AI strategy. We asked him to share what's driven that journey — and what it says about what GoTo is building, for its customers and its GoGetters.

The kind of culture that speaks for itself

One of the first things Aditya reflects on is the idea that company culture isn't something you read about — it's something you feel. And at GoTo, what he's consistently felt is that people mean what they say.

That shows up in specifics. Managers who genuinely listen. Centre heads who are truly approachable. A Voice of Employee survey process where feedback visibly moves things rather than disappearing into a deck.

At a company of GoTo's scale, that kind of consistency is rare. Yet Aditya has seen it hold true across more than a decade — through growth, change, and everything in between. That speaks for itself.

Where the work takes shape

Ask Aditya whether the India team executes decisions made elsewhere, and he's clear: GoTo is not a support function. A significant majority of the work originates here.

That's reflected in how the team is built: over 90% of GoTo's functions are represented in Bengaluru. Engineering is the largest, with Product, Data, Customer Experience, IT, Finance, and People teams alongside. Strategic decisions, product development, and innovation initiatives are conceived and executed from here — in close collaboration with global teams.

The autonomy that comes with that is something Aditya returns to more than once. From early multi-cloud architecture work to GoTo's current AI and ML push, the India team has consistently been trusted to work on what's next.

"GoTo has always given its India teams the autonomy to work on the latest and greatest. Innovation Hack Week isn't a few ideas from a few people — it's the whole team, unleashed."

Investment that shows up in practice

Career development at GoTo isn't a slide in an onboarding deck. Aditya points to learning resources, employee resource groups, and structured development programs that have been meaningful across different stages of his career, not just at the start.

Beyond the professional side, it's the community layer that stands out. Sports events, volunteering initiatives, charity drives — these are the moments, he reflects, that bring people together in ways that no all-hands ever replicates.

"The relationships I've built here go well beyond professional," he says. "In 11.5 years, I've worked with some of the sharpest, most collaborative colleagues in the industry. There's a warmth to this team that's hard to find at scale."

What he'd tell someone starting out

We asked Aditya what he'd say to someone entering the IT industry and weighing their options. His answer was direct — and it's the kind of answer that doesn't need any embellishment.

"If you're looking for a place where you'll be challenged, supported, and given the tools to build something meaningful: I'd recommend GoTo without hesitation."
