What makes someone great in a customer-facing role in tech? It's rarely just one thing. At GoTo, the people who thrive in Customer Care tend to bring a mix of curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine interest in the people they work with — customers and teammates alike.

Mate Gubics and Felicia Szommer are two members of GoTo's Customer Care team in Hungary, and their paths here look nothing alike. What they share is a commitment to growing, to their team, and to doing work that actually matters to the people on the other end of it. Here's a look at what their experience at GoTo has really been like.

Leading a Team That Puts People First

Ask Mate Gubics what he does outside of work and he'll tell you about the gym, exploring new cultures, and taking on personal projects that push him to learn something new. It's a pattern that carries directly into how he leads. Discipline, resilience, a bias toward growth — these aren't just personality traits for Mate. They're how he shows up for his team every day.

Man stood in middle of a bridge.

His role as Team Manager at GoTo is a little different every day — which is exactly how he likes it. But his goal remains the same: to make sure his team has what they need to succeed, and that customers feel that too.

From day one, what stood out most to Mate was the people. "Everyone was approachable and willing to help, no matter what team they were on." That's not a small thing when you're stepping into a new company. He doesn't take that for granted, and it's helped shape how he leads his own team. "Building trust, coaching individuals, and helping people grow has an even bigger impact on long-term success." Watching team members develop and reach their goals has become one of the most rewarding parts of his job.

When asked what someone needs to bring to a role like his, he doesn't lead with technical skills. He leads with empathy, adaptability, and communication. A Team Manager's job isn't just hitting performance metrics; it’s understanding what motivates people, helping them through challenges, and creating an environment where everyone feels confident to do their best work.

On Curiosity, Growth, and Finding Your Path at GoTo

Felicia Szommer's curiosity is more than a personality trait; it's a habit that shapes how she lives. Outside of work, it has taken her to new countries and cultures. At work, it's what keeps her learning and open to taking on new challenges. That habit has shaped where her career has gone — and where it's still going.

She came to GoTo through Customer Support, learning the products, adapting to different customers, and building patience and problem-solving skills that she hadn't expected to develop the way she did. Over time she grew into a senior team member, training and guiding newer colleagues, sharing knowledge she'd earned. Now she's moved into a new chapter entirely: the Project Management Onboarding team. Each step built on the one before it, and none of them meant starting over somewhere else.

"Moving into the Project Management Onboarding team feels like another great opportunity to build on everything I've learned so far and continue developing in a new direction."

Beyond the growth opportunities, what Felicia values most about GoTo is that even in a remote-first environment, there are still genuine ways to connect. Monthly themed team gatherings at the office give people from across different teams a reason to show up in person, socialize, and feel part of something beyond their daily work.

She describes her team as people who help each other, share knowledge, and work together to find solutions. The work itself, she says, comes down to patience, curiosity, and adaptability. Every customer and every situation is different. Being a good listener matters as much as knowing the product. And sometimes the best solution isn't the first one that comes to mind. That, in the end, is the thread running through Felicia's story: the people who keep asking questions here are the ones who keep growing.

What It Takes to Thrive Here

The Customer Care team is made up of people who bring more than technical skills to the table. They're curious, dependable, and invested in the success of those around them. If Mate's and Felicia's stories have anything in common, it's that neither of them arrived that way. They asked questions, took on work they hadn't done before, and grew into something larger — which is available to anyone willing to do the same.
