Over the years, the Olympic long jump has featured some of the greatest sprinters in the world, who have used their incredible pace as an advantage for a massive leap. Jesse Owens, Carl Lewis and Heike Drechsler are just some of the sprinters who enjoyed success in the long jump. But never discount a long-jump specialist!

Mike Powell - World Long Jump Record 1991

At the 1991 World Championships in Athletics (Tokyo), Powell broke Bob Beamon's almost 23-year-old long jump world record by 5cm (2 inches), leaping 8.95m - just minutes after Carl Lewis had jumped a wind-assisted 8.91m!
