1B Mark Teixeira

1B Mark Teixeira

Teixeira had been the most consistent player on Rangers teams that didn't have enough talent to contend in the aftermath of the Alex Rodriguez trade. He would spend less than a year with Atlanta (traded again on July 29, 2008), but contributed 37 home runs and 134 runs batted in during his limited stay there.

SS Elvis Andrus

Andrus was ranked as one of Baseball America's top 100 minor league prospects entering the 2007 season. He debuted in the majors in 2009, finished runner-up for the American League Rookie of the Year award, and has been a core player for the Rangers ever since. He has already played nearly twice as many games for the team (1,221 prior to start of 2017 season) as Teixeira ever did.

RHP Neftali Feliz

Like Andrus, the fiery right-hander excelled immediately. He was named 2010 AL Rookie of the Year for his work as the Rangers closer. Feliz continued to contribute to their pitching staff (mostly out of the bullpen) until the 2015 season.

LHP Matt Harrison

Harrison's career, unfortunately, was derailed in his late-20's by chronic back issues. But prior to that, he was arguably the best starting pitcher on the Rangers. The lefty earned a 2012 AL All-Star selection and totaled 50 regular season wins.

Trade's Legacy

The Rangers would do this again in a heartbeat. Teixeira was likely to leave the team as a free agent after the 2008 season in pursuit of a larger contract, anyway. Instead of waiting, they swapped him for three significant contributors, including one who's still around a full decade later.
