E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982)

Classic family movie by Steven Spielberg, about a friendly alien and his eventful visit to Earth.

Dan the Info-man
E.T. featured Henry Thomas as Elliott, Robert MacNaughton as Michael and Drew Barrymore as Gertie.

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

E.T. has become a modern classic of cinema. A simple tale about a young boy and an alien becoming friends has become an incredible cultural phenomenon! You may laugh, you may cry, you may even phone home - but you won't be disappointed with this feel-good movie.

Dan the Info-man
There were some vague plans for a somewhat disturbing sequel called E.T. II: Nocturnal Fears, but Spielberg wisely chose against making it.

Jaws (1975)

The Steven Spielberg film that spawned a handful of sequels (Jaws 2, Jaws 3-D and Jaws: The Revenge). None of them came near to the original though!

Dan the Info-man
Jaws starred Roy Scheider as Chief Martin Brody, Robert Shaw as Quint and Richard Dreyfuss as Matt Hooper.

An intense movie with an infamous soundtrack; how many other man-eating monsters have their own impending doom theme tune? Spielberg's direction was sharp and suspenseful at the same time - audiences knew what was coming but it still made them jump out of their seats when the shark finally appeared in all its glory!

Dan the Info-man
Funnily enough, the mechanical sharks used were called Bruce - after Spielberg's lawyer, Bruce Ramer!

Catch Me If You Can (2002)

Trailer for the enjoyable crime caper about the life of confidence trickster, Frank Abagnale.

Dan the Info-man
This film had an amazing cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, Amy Adams, Martin Sheen and Jennifer Garner.

Catch Me If You Can

Spielberg has often been associated with big "summer blockbusters," featuring aliens, dinosaurs, sharks, science fiction and plenty of special effects. However, Catch Me If You Can was purely driven by story and performance. Tom Hanks' FBI agent tries his best to catch Leonardo DiCaprio's conman in a film that could have failed miserably under less skillful direction.

Dan the Info-man
The real Frank Abagnale (DiCaprio's character) is now a CEO of a security consultancy!

Schindler's List (1993)

Based on a true story, Schindler's List is Steven Spielberg's epic drama of World War II Holocaust survivors and the man who helped them.

Dan the Info-man
The filmed featured Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler, Ben Kingsley as Itzhak Stern and Ralph Fiennes as Amon Göth.

Schindler’s List

An extraordinary film from a man mostly known for "popcorn" fun adventure movies. Schindler's List is now considered one of the greatest movies of all time. Spielberg's personal touch helped tell the story of Oskar Schindler and his efforts to save hundreds of Polish Jews from the Nazi concentration camps.

Dan the Info-man
The real Oskar Schindler died in 1974. The German factory owner is credited with saving 1,200 people.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Trailer for Raiders of the Lost Ark. What could go wrong with a film using the talents of Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford? Nothing!

Dan the Info-man
The greatest action-adventure movie of all time! This is what happens when archaeologists crack the whip!

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Indiana Jones and his fedora starred in this classic adventure movie. Spielberg directed a story created by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman. Harrison Ford was perfectly cast as the intrepid archaeologist who fights his way out of trouble whilst searching for the Ark of the Covenant. Spielberg clearly has a soft spot for Indy, as he directed all three sequels...and will be directing a fifth Indiana Jones film scheduled for release in 2020!

Dan the Info-man
The classic scene where Indy shoots a skilled swordsman was down to Ford suffering from dysentery and just wanting to get the scene over and done with!

What, no dinosaurs?

There are many other Spielberg films that could have easily made this collection (but it's a top 5 not a top 20!): Jurassic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Saving Private Ryan, Bridge of Spies, Lincoln, Minority Report, The Color Purple, Duel, The Sugarland Express - the list goes on!

Dan the Info-man
Regardless of reports on the Internet, no real dinosaur was harmed in this image of Steven Spielberg!
