The 800m is a surprisingly difficult race to run. It is the shortest of the middle to long distance runs (1500m, 5000m, etc) but longer than the sprints (100m, 200m, etc). Runners have to combine strength and stamina to win. Famous Olympic winners include Peter Snell, David Rudisha, Kelly Holmes and Joaquim Cruz.
