The great man was a love child!

Leonardo da Vinci's parents were Messer Piero Fruosino di Antonio da Vinci and Caterina. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a peasant. The couple were not married. The artist was born in Vinci, hence his name.

This sounds much more macabre than it really was! Being the sort of person he was, naturally cutting up dead bodies and studying human systems would be fascinating for him. However, he sometimes replaced the muscles with strings, just to figure out how they functioned!
